Tsuritama Visual Fanbook English Translation Sneak Peek

As I promised, I’m offering a translation for the Question&Answer segments for both Haru and Akira.

The idea is that in the future I’ll work on a proper scanlated translation release. I’ll scan in the book and hopefully it’ll look all nice so I can take the Japanese text out and type in the translation, but I will only get started on that in a few weeks if everything goes as planned.

In the meantime, have a sneak peek with our lovely alien and our dashing 25.

Huh. In the show I thought they said Akira was Indian, but now here they’re saying he’s from Arabia…? *blink blink*

This is just a thought - and I could be all kinds of wrong since I’m hardly knowledgeable when it comes to this area of the world -  but Akira’s just implying that this expression comes from Arabia. Arabia and India share a link in the cultural sense, so it could still be one that is very present in the Indian culture.

Q. How about a dish you like and one you don’t?

A. I like shirasu and red miso soup! I don’t like fish! Well, it’s not like I don’t like it, but it hurts if I eat some… [Wonder why.]

a friendly reminder about Haru re: eating fish

Would just like to add that this answer in particular doesn’t necessarily stand as an argument (I don’t mean to say it’s not valid, I’m just saying it’s not an undeniable truth), as it’s not the first time events or things implied in the anime contradict info released in other media such as production books and staff tweets and whatnot—

Case in study:

  • Yuki’s knowledge in other languages: there was some tweet from the staff saying Yuki could speak English and French. The novel, on the other hand, says Yuki doesn’t understand French (nothing I’ve read so far in the novel says anything about English; personally I’d say he’s average in Japanese society, if not a bit awkward because that’s his nature).
  • Haru’s clothes: again, some tweet from the staff said Haru borrowed Yuki’s clothes. In the Q&A segment I translated (linked above), however, Haru states that Kate bought him at least a fair amount of clothes (and let’s be honest look at Yuki’s outfits, then look at Haru’s, that’s not just a combination issue, I’d say).

Those are a couple I can take from the top of my head at the moment. as for Haru and eating fish, the anime implies that he finds fish tasty - which in turn would imply he’s eaten fish - wether he does so frequently or not is another matter.

Again I’d like to point out I’m not here just going against what tumblr user hainohainos is saying (at all). Just happened to see this post and thought I’d add some food for thought and basically say you should just take these bits of trivia in stride and not take them as the absolute truth. Or something.

On a random note why’s that ‘[Wonder why.]’ included, that was just my own comment to his answer. D:

so... umm... are you still working on tsuritama novel's translation? if yes, sorry i'm not trying to rush you or anything >.< take your time

You might want to have a look at this post since I’ve had other people coming to me with the same question, but otherwise tl;dr = I WILL be back with translations, it’s just at the moment I’m going through some rough real life crap and well, I can’t deal with everything at the moment but it will be done!
